Austin Justice Coalition (AJC), a dedicated organization committed to creating positive change in our community, is thrilled to join forces with the Hogg Foundation, a champion for mental health and well-being.

In line with AJC’s mission, we eagerly embrace the National Day of Racial Healing (NDORH) by organizing a special event on January 14th, 2024. We extend a warm invitation to the community to participate in an enriching experience where we will guide attendees through a series of healing activities, placing a spotlight on the profound connection between race, racism, and mental health.

Join us in this transformative event, where we collectively foster engagement and facilitate healing discussions on the critical issues of racism, bias, inequity, and injustice.

Expect an event that not only enlightens but empowers, as we explore the intersections of race and well-being. We will have free on-site childcare for children under 13, free food and refreshments, and free public transportation passes. RSVP here.

CapMetro and the City of Austin invite you to help shape the North Lamar Transit Center and South Congress Transit Center Station Area Vision Plans! In this next phase of our Equitable Transit-Oriented Development (ETOD) planning, we’ll share options for the future of these CapMetro transit centers based on what we heard from you this past spring. Come and go as needed during this in-person workshop, where you can provide insights and chat with the ETOD project team and other CapMetro and City of Austin partners. Snacks and kid-friendly activities will be provided.

This workshop will also include a resource fair to connect with healthcare providers, assistance agencies, workforce training opportunities, CapMetro services, and more. Stay tuned for more information about those partners!

ETOD Workshops for the North Lamar Transit Center and South Congress Transit Center Station Area Vision Plan:
Thursday 10/19, 4-8pm at TA Brown Elementary School
Saturday 10/21, 10am-2pm at St. Elmo Elementary School

More info:
How is Austin Working to Achieve ETOD (Equitable Transit-Oriented Development)?
CapMetro was awarded $3.15 million from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) TOD Pilot Grant to produce an Equitable Transit-Oriented Development (ETOD) Study for Austin, Texas.

CapMetro is leading the ETOD Study in partnership with the City of Austin (COA) and the Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) to implement future transportation investments in step with corresponding tools and policies that focus on preserving existing communities and enhancing their access to economic opportunity. The study recommends community-centered policies and strategies for stations planned under Project Connect, a voter-approved transit expansion plan that includes a zero-emissions fleet, new rail system and an expanded bus system with more routes. In June 2021, City Council directed City staff to develop a systemwide ETOD Policy Plan which will build on the ETOD Strategy Framework and guide additional planning activities in other corridors. Key recommendations from this study are directly incorporated into the Plan as part of the collaborative efforts.

This project is trailblazing for CapMetro in many ways— in the intentionality to focus on equity, prioritize underrepresented voices, align transit and housing strategies across multiple agencies, as well as the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to implement policies in the advancement of major infrastructure construction.

Developing green space among modern urban infrastructure is a growing priority throughout the City of Austin. Improving access to green space in and around the city can improve human health, revitalize ecosystems, and boost a region’s economy. However, without proper engagement and management, these projects can worsen existing socioeconomic and ecological problems or even create new ones.

Join us for a moderated panel that explores the historical disparities of Waller Creek, as well as the mission to revive Waller Creek and its surrounding green spaces for the benefit of all.

This event is part of the following event series: Waterloo Green Days

Join us to learn more about how Austin Water is incorporating equity and affordability in the City’s 100-year integrated water resource plan, Water Forward. Originally adopted by Council in 2018, the purpose of the Water Forward plan is to ensure a sustainable water supply for the City of Austin through challenges posed by drought, climate change and population growth. As a part of the 2024 plan update, Austin Water has been working with a Community Ambassadors Group to develop an Equity and Affordability Roadmap for the plan as a way to continue this mission.
