On December 7th, Austin City Council will vote on the HOME Initiative, a proposal to allow up to three housing units to be built on single-family lots. The idea is to increase the city’s supply of “missing middle” housing, but like so many debates related to housing and land use, the issue is confusing and complicated.

That’s why we’ve broken down all the basics for ya in our latest guide!

I am excited to announce and invite you to our upcoming public safety meeting, which will be held on November 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jollyville Fire Department, 9218 Anderson Mill Road. This meeting promises to be enlightening and informative, as representatives from Austin Water and Austin Energy will join us.

With winter fast approaching, it is crucial that we equip ourselves with the necessary knowledge and preparedness to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. The expertise and insights that our guests will share during this meeting will provide us with a wealth of valuable information regarding winter weather preparedness.

Austin Water, committed to providing safe and reliable water services, will enlighten us on safeguarding our water supply during the colder months. They will share tips on preventing frozen pipes, proper insulations, and other essential measures to avoid any potential disruption in our water services.

Similarly, Austin Energy will be present to discuss strategies for winterizing our homes and businesses. Their representatives will shed light on energy conservation techniques, efficient heating practices, and maintaining our electrical systems to ensure an uninterrupted power supply throughout the chilly season.

This meeting will not only provide valuable information but also serve as an opportunity for us to connect and support one another. Your presence and active participation will significantly contribute to the success of this event, fostering a stronger and more resilient community.

Please extend this invitation to your neighbors, friends, and family members who may also benefit from attending. Let’s ensure we are well-prepared for the upcoming winter season.

As space is limited, take a moment to RSVP for this event.

Parking: Please use the spaces behind the fire station on the left-hand side. The fire department will keep the gate open for visitors during this time. However, parking is limited, so please park only in designated spaces. If those spaces are full, you can park in the shopping center next door and take a short walk over.

I am thrilled to invite you to our upcoming public safety community meeting. This gathering will be held at the Jollyville Fire Department at 9218 Anderson Mill Road on Wednesday, October 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Also, please remember that these meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each month.

The core focus of these meetings will evolve around matters about public safety, a subject of utmost significance for all of us. It is an excellent opportunity for you to have your questions addressed and let me know your concerns.

I am happy to inform you that our upcoming community meeting will feature 3-1-1 and 9-1-1 communications representatives. They will provide invaluable insights into the difference between the two important emergency services and guide us on when it is appropriate to dial 3-1-1 versus 9-1-1.

This meeting is open to the public and current and future Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members.

Parking

Please park behind the fire station, on the left-hand side, there will be a gate that the fire department will leave open for visitors. Parking is limited. Please park where there are spaces, and if they run out, please park in the shopping center next door and walk over. Please do not park around the tower or burn the building.

We can forge a safer and more resilient District 6 by uniting as a community. I hope you can join us at this event, and I encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors to join us.
