Heart of Texas Green Expo offers eco-friendly family entertainment in Bastrop on June 7th

On your mark, get set, go Green!

Mark your calendar to attend the third annual Heart of Texas Green Expo on Saturday, June 7 in beautiful, historic Bastrop at the at the Bastrop Convention & Exhibit Center. The Heart of Texas Green Expo blends family fun, food, music and practical, everyday advice on how to create a sustainable, eco-friendly future. Informative presentations and more than 60 exhibits will showcase water use and conservation, organic gardening, renewable energy, eco-friendly transportation, sustainable farming and green building systems.

And the best of all… admission is FREE!

Exhibitor Air Wind & Solar will be giving away a turnkey solar power system installation valued at $8,000 to one lucky attendee. Plus Goodwill Industries will be onsite to offer free electronics recycling.

And that’s not all. Exhibitor Innovative Water Solutions, Inc. is giving away a 1,000 gallon rainwater catchment system at the end of June, and everyone who attends the Green Expo will have the opportunity to submit an entry for the drawing. Attendees who visit their booth will receive 10 entries, and those who make a donation to KBCB will receive an additional 10 entries for the drawing.

This year’s keynote speaker is Central Texas gardening expert John Dromgoole, owner of The Natural Gardener in Austin and founder of Lady Bug Natural Brand soils, compost and other gardening products. He is also the well-known host of the long-running weekly radio call-in show “Gardening Naturally” online and on KLBJ-AM 590 radio in Austin.

Other speakers include Texas State Representative Bill Callegari and environmental educator Gina LaMotte. LaMotte is founder and executive director of EcoRise Youth Innovations, an organization developing school-based teaching curricula to introduce students in grades K-12 to sustainability, design innovation and social entrepreneurship.

The event is co-sponsored by Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and the nonprofit volunteer group Keep Bastrop County Beautiful (KBCB). The Green Expo provides financial support for activities that KBCB presents throughout the year, including Earth Day and Arbor Day celebrations, grants for teachers, community meetings, student scholarships, the Recycle More Art Contest, Colorado River clean-ups and trash clean-ups.
