Join us for the final volunteer opportunity of the year and make a lasting impact on the Butler Trail. Don’t miss the chance to give back at our Shoreline Stewardship Volunteer event this Saturday, December 16th for restoration planting at Longhorn Shores! Register here.

The Trail Conservancy continues to enhance the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail by planting a diversity of native plant species following the invasive work by contractors.  A combination of sedges, grasses, and forbs provides a diverse ground cover and suppresses weed pressure while insulating the bank from erosion in regions between the Trail and the Lake.

Event Details:

— Meeting Location: Near the Longhorn Shore Dam (Google Map Link)

— Parking Information: Free parking at Krieg Baseball fields

— Directions: Park at the Krieg Baseball fields and walk to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Tunnel for Longhorn Damn to reach the meeting location and avoid crossing the street.

The Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, enhance, and connect the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake for the benefit of all.

Every city has a vibe. A scene. A look.

A sense of place that leaves you with a certain feeling that makes you want to come back for

more. Learn more. Discover more. Do more. See more. AND if it does – often – that more is its

culture which we know public art can play a pivotal role.

Public Art in a city becomes a collective experiential language. Often physical and visual but

increasingly multi-sensorial; the aesthetics of which create memories and increase one’s desire

to be there. To return for more.

Establishing a sense of a place – when thoughtfully considered through public art – distinguishes

neighborhoods and becomes enhanced attractions to business districts. Housed within

corporate and public facilities, integrated among streetscapes and placed throughout our parks

and trails; public art can shape the aesthetics of a place by imparting indelible and unforgettable

impressions.

A Sense of Place Public Art Conversation offers an opportunity to re-imagine how art in public

places impacts the built environment. Topics will focus on ideas of impact, the sensibilities of

site-specific and site-responsive artworks, permanence and the healing aspects of being in

nature with art.

Join us.

Beers Made By Walking invites brewers to go on nature hikes and make new beers inspired by the plants from the trail. Each beer is different, becoming a drinkable portrait of the local landscape.

Beerburg is proud to partner with BMBW to host the first ever program in the Southwest region. This collaborative event consisted of four hikes throughout 2023 where participants learned about native, non-native, and invasive plants, along with important environmental issues surrounding the region.

Each hike was coordinated with a local non-profit partner that works to protect the land and water in the region, and was led by a local professional who can identify edible plants and speak to their medicinal and culinary uses. Our partners are The Shield Ranch FoundationThe Watershed AssociationColorado River Land Trust, and The Nature Conservancy.

These beers will be showcased at the Beers Made By Walking Festival on November 11. This first-of-its-kind festival celebrates nature, local plant life, and the local brewers who found inspiration here in the hill country. Proceeds from the ticket sales for the festival will be donated to our non-profit partners. Tickets can be purchased here.

Election Day is November 7th & if you live in Travis County, one of the things you’ll see on your ballot is Prop B, a $276 million parks bond.
