Austin Water has ranked first in a scorecard measuring the conservation efforts of water utilities across the state. The Texas Water Conservation Scorecard rates hundreds of water providers on their on-going efforts to lower water consumption, inform their customers about how to help out, cut water losses in delivery and other criteria. The scorecard comes out of the Texas Living Waters Project, a collaboration between the Sierra Club, National Wildlife Federation, and the Galveston Bay Foundation.

Out of over 300 water utilities in Texas, Austin was the highest scoring, with 90 out of a 100 points. Austin received such high marks because of its impressive conservation efforts during the recent drought, as well as its decision to move to permanent once-a-week outdoor watering.
