Join us for the final volunteer opportunity of the year and make a lasting impact on the Butler Trail. Don’t miss the chance to give back at our Shoreline Stewardship Volunteer event this Saturday, December 16th for restoration planting at Longhorn Shores! Register here.

The Trail Conservancy continues to enhance the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail by planting a diversity of native plant species following the invasive work by contractors.  A combination of sedges, grasses, and forbs provides a diverse ground cover and suppresses weed pressure while insulating the bank from erosion in regions between the Trail and the Lake.

Event Details:

— Meeting Location: Near the Longhorn Shore Dam (Google Map Link)

— Parking Information: Free parking at Krieg Baseball fields

— Directions: Park at the Krieg Baseball fields and walk to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Tunnel for Longhorn Damn to reach the meeting location and avoid crossing the street.

The Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, enhance, and connect the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake for the benefit of all.

Here is an opportunity to help the TreeFolks staff get thousands of saplings (baby trees) that we will be planting this winter tucked in a warm blanket of mulch while they wait for planting day. This is a great opportunity to get more familiar with the dozens of native tree species that we plant.

We will provide gloves and other supplies, as well as coffee, water, and light refreshments. Come have fun and get your hands dirty at the TreeFolks office. We will be working outside so please dress for the weather. Free parking at the TreeFolks office.

It’s My Park Day is Austin Parks Foundation’s biannual, community-led day of service. Volunteers work in parks and green spaces around Austin on projects to improve their community parks like litter cleanup, tree mulching, invasive species management and more.

For 20 years, It’s My Park Day has brought volunteers from across Austin together to improve their local parks and build community. All projects are led by community members to encourage neighbors to come out, lend a hand and connect with fellow park lovers from all walks of life. This is a day many look forward to all year as we celebrate the people and parks that make Austin special!

About The Trail Conservancy:

Trail users will help steward the land surrounding the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake. By stewarding the land, volunteers will help improve and protect the natural areas around Lady Bird Lake, an essential refuge for wildlife within the City, and connect riparian corridors and numerous protected areas up and downstream. The natural areas serve both resident wildlife and countless migratory birds and butterflies.

The Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, enhance, and connect the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake for the benefit of all.

About the Roots & Wings Festival:

An annual community-wide celebration of trees, pollinators, and all creatures.
The Festival is dedicated to celebrating nature in our neighborhoods. We embrace the idea that we are all connected to each other and to our local ecosystem. Growing these connections creates a stronger, more resilient community.

The Roots & Wings Festival is not one event, it is many, and it is led by the community in neighborhoods all over Austin. Community events feature celebrations of our urban forest ecosystem (trees, plants, fungi, soil health, pollinators, birds, bats, and more)!

In 2022, the Roots & Wings Festival helped to support over 70 community-led events!
