More info about Water Forward:

Water Forward is Austin’s 100-year integrated water resource plan to develop and implement diverse and environmentally conscious water management strategies to adapt to growth, drought, and climate change and ensure a sustainable, resilient, equitable, and affordable water future for our community for the next 100 years.

Water Forward was first approved by Council in November 2018. Since that time Austin Water has begun implementation of near-term plan strategies to help address future water supply needs. Austin Water has now started the process to complete the first 5-year update to the Water Forward plan and is targeting plan completion by 2024. Austin Water will be updating this plan in alignment with community values and will include refreshed demand, climate, and other projections to plan for a range of possible futures.

The Water Forward community engagement process will include virtual and in person engagement opportunities, including public workshops, ongoing Water Forward Task Force meetings, and other events.

We all know that drought is a consistent problem in Austin… So how do we ensure that our city has a safe and secure water supply for generations to come?

That’s where Water Forward comes in. Water Forward is our city’s 100-year water resource plan. It was first approved by Council in 2018 and is now in the process of being updated. But before that happens, the city wants to hear from you! Click here to take Austin Water’s Water Forward survey.

The City of Austin is planning for the future… and it needs your help. Our city’s water utility, Austin Water, is currently in the process of developing Water Forward, a 100-year plan that will ensure that Austin has a diversified, sustainable, and resilient water future into the next century.

It’s a plan that now seems more important than ever, especially with stories like the water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa circulating in the news.

So how do you get involved?

Austin Water is hosting a public workshop on Wednesday, March 21st from 6pm to 8pm at Dawson Elementary School in south Austin. Staff and consultants will be on hand to discuss the draft plan recommendations. Public input will also be accepted. More info>>
